Welcome to Thanks BP!
In the midst of all of the recent BP turmOIL, Thanks BP was created. It was founded by a group of Native New Orleanians looking for a way to get a message of sarcastic appreciation out to all of the BP executives and others involved in contributing to this disaster. It is a message from the oyster, shrimp, and recreational fishermen and divers, from competing oil companies that now have higher taxes and less appreciation for their services, from the loyal Acme Oyster House lover or the P&J Oysters employee, from all of us who are physically, financially, and spiritually invested in the Louisiana coastline and all of her fruits, to GET MOVING. Everything we have grown to love is now rapidly deteriorating. In fact, its entire existence has been put in jeopardy and we need all the support we can get to salvage our way of life. So without further adieu, Thanks BP.
New Orleans As We Know It
New Orleans as we know it, or knew it, is in grave danger of being permanently destroyed by the encroaching oil. The spirit of New Orleans and all across Louisiana spawns from our southern social gatherings and get-togethers. It is here that we celebrate a way of life with our favorite seafoods harvested right out of our coastlines and estuaries.
Our Coastline As We Knew It
The oil, which made landfall May 17, 2010, is eating away an already eroding coastline like a hot knife through butter. The Federal Government has taken an unnecessarily passive role in the most critical stage in the oil spill recovery and clean up process. This may result in irreparable damage to our coastline as well as our wildlife and fisheries.
